Montague’s dimly lit and creaky house is the perfect environment for the telling of the tales and Uncle Montague himself is a master at revealing a spooky tale. Erin regrets the incident immediately but is then shut out of any other possible friendships because of her behavior. Once Erin and Monica go to summer camp, Erin begins to see the cruelty that teens inflict upon each other and begins to cope with being Monica’s sister. F HOL REALISTIC

THE DEAD AND THE GONE by Susan Pfeffer - In Life as We Knew It veteran writer Pfeffer painted a terrifying picture of what happened in a rural Pennsylvania town after an asteroid hit the moon and cataclysmic changes on land and sea caused familiar life to grind to a halt. For readers who wondered if things were any better in a bustling city, here is the horrifying answer. On the night the moon tilts, 17-year-old Alex and his younger sisters are alone; their mother is at work, and their father is visiting Puerto Rico. No matter how the kids wish, hope, and pray, their parents don't return. It's up to Alex to do what's best. The story's power, as in the companion book, comes from readers' ability to picture themselves in a similiar situation; everything Pfeffer writes about seems wrenchingly plausible. (Cooper, Ilene. THE GOOD GIRL by Kerry Cohen Hoffmann - After the death of her brother and subsequent departure of her mother, 15-year-old Lindsey is left to hold the pieces of her family together. The pressure of her position eventually triggers Lindsey’s own coping mechanism, which is to steal from her family and school friends. Hiding her secret becomes more difficult as a new romantic interest comes on the scene and eventually Lindsey must decide to allow her family and friends to see her for who she really is, rather than consistently playing the part of the caretaker and achiever.
